Trouble-maker

The Constant Disfigurement was Painful and Humiliating
Everyday was a Cold, Dark Wedding
"something old...something new...something(time) borrowed...
and definitely, something blue"
A Physical Battle Coupled with Mental Exhaustion
Overwhelmed her Sacrificial Young Life
Which Way Could She Turn
To Avoid New Strap Marks on Her Face?
Which Bone Would She Contribute
To the Rage?
Running Away Only Ignited
The Sick and Monstrous Acts of Daddy
Hair was Lost
Minds were Lost
Orders to Keep Quiet
Were Engraved in Her
Fragile Little Mind
Screaming Out Loud
Only Invited Excruciating
Out of Body Trauma
So...
She Screamed
Quietly...
To Herself
While Lying on the
Cluttered Floor
Of Her Shared Closet

Homemade Dresses Weren't Long Enough
To Cover up the Multi-colored Welts
That Laced Her Tender Little Limbs
Yet, She Prayed and Prayed
No One Would Discover
Her Swollen and Disfigured Face

"Maybe the Swelling will go down
Before the Bell Rings"

Teachers Kept Her in the Corner
And Away From the Other Kids
She was an Outcast
From the Beginning
Kindergarden was The Beginning of The End
Social Skills Were Lost Forever
Recess was Spent Indoors
Facing the Chalkboard
Standing, Alone

"Look at the Welts on That Girl...
She Must be a Bad Seed.
I Don't Want That Trouble-maker Anywhere Near My Kids.
She Needs To Learn How to Behave Herself
And Listen to Her Parents."
